On March 2, Britney Johnson-Gilbert taught the opening lesson of the Financial Literacy Workshops at the New Generation Bethel Ministries in Fort Gaines.
Mrs. Johnson-Gilbert, an economics teacher at Randolph Clay High School, shared her bad and good experiences with spending and managing money in her early college years. “I had to mess up to learn how to clean up” said Mrs. Johnson-Gilbert.
She gave an overview of the workshops she will be conducting on the first and third Monday of each month. They were Budgeting, Paying off Debt, Credit Building/ Repair, Analyze a Credit Report, How to dispute your credit report on your own, Resume Building, Interview Skills, and Professional Etiquette. The class took a Financial Fitness Quiz to see if they were making good financial decisions. After discussing the quiz, she had them set a goal for the year. Refreshments were served at the end of class.
On Monday March 23rd, the next lesson will be on budgeting and learning needs vs. wants. Class starts at 6:30 p.m.
