TIFTON–Lights, Camera, Action! During her days as a student at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, Jamie Worsley always hoped to hear those words in her working career. As it turns out, that dream turned into reality. Worsley is a television reporter for WALB-TV in Albany.

A native of Arlington, Ga., Worsley knew after her first step on campus that ABAC was the place for her. She was awarded the 2017 Presidential Scholarship to attend ABAC and started her freshman year not sure of what the future would hold.

“I came into ABAC as an undecided major,” Worsley said. “I had considered Biology and History and Government (Pre-Law), but I wasn’t 100 percent decided. So, I took a few classes to help me choose a career path.” It wasn’t until she took the “Introduction to Broadcasting” course with Dr. Thomas Grant that she realized her interest and talents leaned toward a career in television.

“It was the hardest class I took while at ABAC,” Worsley said. After taking that course she declared her major as Writing and Communication and never looked back.

“After becoming a Writing and Communication major, I decided to jump with both feet into the world of media and broadcasting,” Worsley said. “I worked at a radio station in Tifton (WTIF) part-time during football season and loved it so much that they let me stay until graduation.”

Worsley was an active student and made the most of her experiences while on campus. She was involved in Stallion TV, Sigma Alpha sorority, the Honors Program, and ABAC Ambassadors. Along with the rigorous course work, those experiences prepared Worsley to work as a multi-media journalist at WALB.

During the workday, Worsley spends time gathering interviews and shooting videos related to the topics she is covering that day. She performs several live TV shots per day for the 5 and 6 p.m. newscasts. She also writes web stories and posts to social media for the news station. Worsley hopes to eventually study for her master’s and doctoral degrees in communications. She would love to continue to work in broadcasting as well as become a professor of communications at a university.

“ABAC has prepared me for whatever field I may choose,” Worsley said.
