On Friday, March 20, Hixon’s Hardware and Trading Post customers and employees heard the shots but did not know exactly what was happening at the time.
The Cuthbert Police Department was working on an “entering auto” case. During the investigation, officers with the Cuthbert Police Department located Kamall Edwards near the area of Gordon Street and Martin Luther King Jr Street. Officers chased Edwards on foot and gunfire was exchanged. Edwards was shot and later pronounced dead at the scene, no officers were injured.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) was called in to investigate the fatal officer-involved shooting. The investigation is ongoing. Channel 3 and Channel 9 out of Columbus had cameras and reporters on the scene covering the breaking story.
