Red Devils Lose Heart-breaker at Buzzer in Overtime

On Friday, January 3, the Randolph Clay Red Devils traveled to Mitchell County to play the Eagles. With fans screaming, cheering and less than 7 seconds to play in regulation play, the Red Devils tied the game 64- 64 to play overtime. In overtime, the Red Devils slipped behind 75- 71 with 48 seconds left. As Red Devils’ defense held, the Eagles missed the shot; the Red Devils rebound and drove the floor to hit a 2-point shot with 29 seconds left. Red Devils called timeout. Score 75-73 Eagles ahead. Eagles inbound the ball; Red Devils steal and score to tie the game at 75-75.

With 11 seconds left in overtime, the Eagles inbound the ball, drive the floor, shot missed. Eagles rebounded and shot again under the basket. As the Scoreboard horn sounded at the end of overtime, the ball was bouncing on top of the rim and fell in.

The Red Devils lose a heart-breaker at the buzzer. Final score, Red Devils 75, Eagles 77. D. Gainer led the Red Devils’ scoring with 20 points; Tony Nunnally had 14 points; NyQuavion Nunnally 13 points; Tramaine Alexander 11 points; Devin Byrd 9 points; Trevar Smith, JaTarion Knighton, Ramel Thomas and Jalen Jackson had 2 points each.

On Tuesday, January 7, the Red Devils host the Seminole County Indians at home.
